Work description

AI Health and Care Award - Technology Specific Evaluation Teams (LSBU Technology Specific Evaluation Team).

Research opportunity originally advertised and awarded via NIHR.

Background and aim of the research As part of the NHS AI Lab, Phase 4 of the Artificial Intelligence in Health and Care Award is seeking to support AI developers to undertake real world evaluations which can be used to support generation of evidence of efficacy and value for money, alongside evidence of how technologies might be deployed at scale in the NHS. This should inform subsequent reimbursement and procurement decisions and facilitate systems adoption. To help ensure the optimal design and delivery of evidence generation during the real world deployments, NHSX and the Accelerated Access Collaborative have commissioned a Technology-Specific Evaluation Team (the Contractor) to work with relevant NHS sites to evaluate each technology within routine clinical or operational pathways to determine efficacy, accuracy, as well as clinical and economic impact (among any other measures as determined appropriate). Some technologies may be deployed in 'shadow' form, e.g. in screening services, rather than prospectively depending on the nature of the AI. The evidence generated by the Contractor in this evaluation will be used to support a submission to National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) or the UK National Screening Committee to determine if the technology should be adopted at scale in the NHS.
