Description

The ABI QuantStudio5 qPCR thermal cycler would be the best addition to the schools bank of equipment; I have looked at the other manufacturer's instruments and have based my selection on the following, unique and beneficial features of this instrument: • The instrument does 6plex, whereas the others are 5plex, this capability will also cover every probe that users may want to use (FAM™/SYBR™ Green, VIC™/JOE™/HEX™/TET™, ABY™/NED™/TAMRA™/Cy®3, JUN™, ROX™/Texas Red™, Mustang Purple™, Cy®5/LIZ™, Cy®5.5). • Has 6 independent temperature zones in the block which allows for faster and cheaper optimisation of new targets. • It's supplied with a laptop, which means users can download data while the instrument is running without risk of affecting other people's data, other instruments have in built systems. • The software is available without licence which means all users can download the software to their own computer to analyse their data on or off campus. • Software is compatible with PC and MAC. • The instrument is able to be calibrated by the user rather than having to be done by the manufacturer, this will reduce future service contract costs.
