Work description
Contracted waste removal for Central Village Expressions of interest are sought from waste management organisations that have a proven track record in this field and can assist with the University's objectives of continuous waste reduction, exploration of other waste streams, increased segregation at source of recyclable products, and maximisation of re-use and recycling.
The University of Leeds have an integrated sustainability strategy which outlines our intention to reduce the amount of waste we produce. Under this strategy are a number of standards; policy documents which outline our intentions. For waste, we have a Reuse, Recycling and Waste Standard, which ensures that the University follows the principles of the waste hierarchy through reducing resource usage and managing its waste in ways that minimise impact on the environment and human health. It is supported by a series of guides, procedures and protocols including a WEEE procedure, A-Z guidance and Storage and Disposal of Fluorescent Lighting procedures. (see attached appendices)
The University is seeking to implement an efficient, cost effective and sustainable waste management system, based upon the existing high performance already achieved and to further meet and exceed future UK and European waste management targets.
