Post Graduate Certificate Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP)

Delivery of a specialist post-qualifying award enabling the development of 5 new Approved Mental Health Professionals.

It is a legal requirement for Local Authorities to provide Approved Mental Health Professionals (AMHPs) to undertake Assessments under the Mental Health Act (1983). The training of new AMHP's is a priority area for the service.

Northumbria university is the only Higher Education Institute in the North East approved to run the AMHP programme.

AMHPs throughout the region are trained on the programme and all Local Authorities are part of a consortium, which input into and evaluate the programme. The ensure quality training which meets Durham County Council's needs.

The cost for each trainee is £2,650 for 2022/23. We have internally recruited 5 staff eligible to commence the programme for year 1 with a potential extension of one year.
