Work description
This contract is for the British Geological Survey (BGS) to undertake and deliver a series of tasks that aim to investigate background concentrations of a family of PFAS chemicals within the soil environment. Whilst more information is becoming available on PFAS and related substances in the water environment (groundwater and surface water) there is still little information on background PFAS levels within soils. In order to assess the scale of the problem, to develop a countrywide picture, and to help evaluate risk, a comprehensive study of background concentrations is considered necessary. This will be conducted in collaboration with the BGS who can facilitate mapping, provide geological context and access to archived soil samples. It is anticipated that this task will include widespread soil sampling from a representative range of environments.
