Description
The University of Essex is seeking tenders for the provision of the Albert Sloman 2nd floor refurbishment project in accordance with this Invitation to Tender and the attached documents. The south wing of the Albert Sloman library is very gloomy and shabby with crowded shelves and a lack of light in comparison to it's newer library extension counrterpart. The original 1960's infrastructure provided little power to study spaces, something which has been improved slightly in recent years, but there is still a huge demand for more power points to enable students to use their laptops and other devices in the Library. Students and other library users expect the same level of facilities and quality of environment throughout the whole library building .The new extension and recently refurbished Library Reading Room highlight the inadequacy of the south wing facilties. This year (2018-19) SU officers have identified study space as one of the 'Big 5' priorities for students, with a particular focus on the need to increase the number of technology enabled study spaces in the south wing and to improve the study environment in the ASL building. This project aims to fully refurbish one floor of the south wing, which will enable us to address student concerns and move closer to achieving a 'one library' feel, while increasing the number of power enabled, modern individual study spaces available to students.
