Work description
Leicester City Council (the Authority) invited Tenders for the provision of consultancy services to provide a full package of engineering design drawings for the roads within the THI area.
The objectives of the project are to respect and reinforce the historic character of the area by:
• The use of appropriate materials in terms of quality and price. • Providing training opportunities in traditional materials and conservation skills. • Retain/repairing surviving townscape elements. • Calming traffic through the use of specific materials rather than through a plethora of signs, as highlighted in Appendices 2 & 3. • Careful use of materials to complement the surrounding areas such as the Cathedral, its environs and Jubilee Square.
It is envisaged that works during the lifetime of the THI project will bring the following benefits to Greyfriars Old Town:
• Enhance identity and civic pride. • Attract more visitors. • Increase income in the city centre. • Help independent businesses and retailers. • Create a safer city centre destination.
Please see the attached ITT document for a full and detailed specification.
