Work description

T1181 looks to provide robust analysis of the effects DVRS, ATUSTs, TGAs and RHTTs have on braking during low adhesion. This provide will implement lessons learnt from previous research projects COF-DART and T1159, it will also address additional questions raised by them. Data captured as part of the Double Variable Rate Sanders pilot being undertaken on the cross-city line through Birmingham will provide more accurate and granular data, which in combination with routine datasets used in COF-DART and T1159 will enable more detailed analysis. It will also enable analysis of how trends driving style affect the efficacy of the low adhesion mitigations. This work will also analyse data from outside the autumn period to identify global changes in driving styles between autumn and other seasons (initially summer only but with the possibility to also compare against winter and spring) to identify which phase of train journeys are most affect by low adhesion, i.e. station departures (traction/acceleration), attained speeds and or station arrives (braking/deceleration).
