University Square in Southend is a student residential development for students at The University of Essex's \(UoE\) Southend campus\. It is arranged as a series of blocks of varying heights\. The tallest block has 10-storeys of student residential accommodation\. Due to the nature of the insulation used in the external build-up of the rainscreen cladding system, meaning the building is not of limited combustibility, the only solution to this is to remove and replace the existing non-compliant cladding which is the subject of an enforcement notice\. The vision is to remove all existing non-compliant cladding and insulation back to the concrete frame\. This is to be replaced with a fully compliant and safe cladding and insulation system using non-combustible \(Class A1\) materials\.
