Work description

W55 Standbridge Lane Bridge carries A6186 over Owler Beck in Sandal. The original bridge constructed in 1853 comprises a reinforced concrete deck slab built on stonework abutments. The bridge was widened in 1983 with a reinforced concrete deck slab supported on reinforced concrete abutments.

Directly adjacent to the south elevation of the bridge is W2033 Standbridge Lane Footbridge that carries a footpath over Owler Beck. The footbridge has single span simply supported steel vierendeel girders that are carried on concrete bankseats.

The refurbishment works to the bridge and footbridge comprise: -

W55 Standbridge Lane Bridge a) Traffic management. b) Works to improve drainage of the older deck including excavation, pipework together with waterproofing and sealing. c) Taking down and rebuilding the majority of the south abutment in new brickwork and re-used coping stones. d) Taking down and rebuilding of the south-west abutment in re-used stones. e) Concrete repairs to the superstructure of the older section of reinforced concrete deck using high pressure water jetting to remove concrete and spraying processes to apply repair material.
