Work description
Defra procuring on behalf of Natural England: Through a programme of catchment appraisal and dissemination of farm advice based upon Catchment Sensitive Farming principles, this project aims to influence land management and nutrient management practices in the catchment to deliver the following key outcomes:
1. Protection of groundwater sources used for public water supply through a reduction in nitrate and pesticide loss to groundwater. 2. Delivery of favourable or recovering condition to Coastal and terrestrial SSSIs through a reduction in pollution load derived from diffuse sources. 3. Delivery of Water Framework Directive water quality objectives for ground and surface water bodies (inc. transitional and coastal waters) through a reduction in diffuse pollution pressure. 4. Integration with biodiversity and landscape enhancement objectives for the Isle of Wight to maximise benefit from agri-environment targeting.
